Brainspotting locates points in the client’s visual field that help to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain. It is a powerful, focused treatment method that works by identifying, processing and releasing core neurophysiological sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, dissociation and a variety of other challenging symptoms.
Brainspotting is effective for a wide variety of emotional and somatic conditions. Brainspotting is particularly effective with trauma-based situations, helping to identify and address underlying trauma that contributes to addiction, anxiety, depression and other behavioral conditions. It can also be used with performance and creativity enhancement. Brainspotting gives the counselor access to both brain and body processes. Its goal is to bypass the conscious, neocortical thinking to access the deeper, subcortical emotional and body-based parts of the brain.
Brainspotting is an effective treatment for addiction because it helps to identify and process the underlying emotional and psychological issues that are driving the addiction. It helps to identify and address the root causes of the addiction, rather than just treating the symptoms. It also helps to create a safe and supportive environment for the individual to explore their feelings and experiences, and to develop healthier coping strategies.
In this Interview with Dr David Grand he introduces and discusses his Brainspotting therapeutic technique
