Where you look affects how you feel.

In this Interview with Dr David Grand, he introduces and discusses Brainspotting.

Brainspotting

What It is

Brainspotting locates points in the client’s visual field that help to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain.  It is a powerful, focused treatment method that works by identifying, processing and releasing core neurophysiological sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, dissociation and a variety of other challenging symptoms.

What To Expect

During a brainspotting session, the client is guided through a process that involves identifying and processing specific "brainspots" or points in the visual field associated with emotional or traumatic experiences. The client maintains a specific gaze or eye position while exploring their thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations related to the targeted issue. The therapist helps facilitate this process through gentle questioning and support, allowing the client to access and process deep-seated emotions and memories.

Why It Helps

Brainspotting is effective for a wide variety of emotional and somatic conditions. Brainspotting is particularly effective with trauma-based situations, helping to identify and address underlying trauma that contributes to addiction, anxiety, depression and other behavioral conditions. It can also be used with performance and creativity enhancement. Brainspotting gives the counselor access to both brain and body processes. Its goal is to bypass the conscious, neocortical thinking to access the deeper, subcortical emotional and body-based parts of the brain.

Are you ready to go deeper?

Brainspotting addresses root issues by accessing and processing trauma and emotional experiences at their source within the brain and body.  Brainspotting helps individuals feel better by providing a unique therapeutic approach that directly accesses and processes unresolved emotional and traumatic experiences.  Here's why it can lead to improved emotional well-being:

Access to Root Issues

Many emotional difficulties are rooted in past traumas or unresolved experiences that are stored in the subconscious mind. Brainspotting helps bring these issues to the surface for processing.

Emotional Release

During a brainspotting session, individuals engage with the emotions and bodily sensations associated with the identified brainspot. This focused attention can lead to the release of pent-up emotions and tension, providing emotional relief.

Integration

The therapeutic process in brainspotting aims to integrate the previously fragmented aspects of traumatic memories or emotional experiences. This integration helps individuals make sense of their feelings and experiences, reducing inner conflict and confusion.

Empowerment

Through the guided process of brainspotting, individuals often gain a greater sense of control and mastery over their emotions and reactions. This empowerment can boost self-esteem and confidence.

Reduced Symptoms

Many individuals experience symptoms like anxiety, depression, and somatic complaints due to unresolved emotional issues. By addressing the root causes, brainspotting can lead to a reduction in these symptoms.

Enhanced Self-Awareness

Brainspotting encourages self-reflection and self-awareness, allowing individuals to gain insights into their thought patterns, emotional triggers, and coping mechanisms. This increased self-awareness can lead to better emotional regulation and decision-making.

Long-Lasting Effects

Brainspotting often results in lasting changes because it targets the core issues rather than just managing symptoms. As individuals process and integrate their experiences, they are better equipped to handle future challenges and stressors.

Mind-Body Connection

Brainspotting recognizes the strong connection between the mind and body. By addressing emotional issues, it can lead to physical benefits such as reduced muscle tension and improved overall health.

Overall, brainspotting's effectiveness in helping individuals feel better lies in its ability to access and process deeply ingrained emotional and traumatic experiences, leading to emotional release, healing, and personal growth.
